As a Technical Director, you will be highly innovative and have a strong passion for the development of inspiring and creative games. You will work with a cross-functional team and take responsibility for setting the high-level vision and work closely with all disciplines to deliver on the overall game. 

Third Kind Games is an independent game studio based in Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, the heart of the UK games industry. Third Kind was founded in 2016, by a group of industry veterans from many high profile companies such as Activision, Codemasters, Sony, Crytek and we have been growing ever since. 

We’re now one of the largest independently owned game dev studios, we have also launched our new studio in Poland, built on the same shared TKG spirit and values.

We work with some of the biggest AAA names in the industry such as Blizzard, Amazon, Microsoft and Mythical Games. Alongside our client projects, we’re also working on our own IP, so it’s a super exciting time at Third Kind Games!

  • You will be responsible for the entire programming team, working on our own IP within a brand new game concept utilising Unreal Engine 5.

  • You will directly manage and support a small dedicated team of lead programmers for this innovative project. Your lead programmers shall manage the day to day activities and workloads of their individual programmers. 

  • You will be responsible for defining all processes and tools used by the team, and the career development of all programming team members.

  • You will understand our consumer needs and ensure the technical vision is understood by our teams and partners so the game delivers great player satisfaction and maximum enjoyment. 

  • You will be responsible for pulling together the overall technical direction of the game by collaborating and inspiring our teams to achieve this and meet key milestones.

  • You will lead by example and develop high programming standards with the team.

  • You can communicate and evangelise your vision to both internal and external stakeholders at all levels to ensure the features and visions for the game are delivered.

  • You can foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, motivating our cross-functional teams to develop unique games with an engaging player experience.

  • You can understand the technical and production elements to ensure a practical concept is delivered and exceeds the customer expectations.

  • You will lead and encourage our technical planning sessions, scrums, and retrospectives and help us drive the development of our projects and the team.

  • Naturally inquisitive, you keep up to date with the games market, emerging technologies and industry trends and cascade to your team.

  • You will be able to lead and motivate programmers and designers to prototype, develop, and refine unique features.

  • You will be able to talk and present enthusiastically about technical ideas, championing their potential.

  • You will be highly adaptable and a great problem solver.

  • 5+ years industry experience in leading a high performing programming team.

  • 10 + years of programming experience in C# or/ and C++.

  • Experience in software design practices including architecture, software design patterns and algorithmic solutions.

  • A realistic, pragmatic and commercially aware approach to games development.

  • Proven ability to develop fun gameplay concepts, ideas and features that keep players wanting more.

  • Experience of designing and launching a live AAA Game.

  • Experience with Unreal.

  • Experience with Unity, or similar game engines.
