DEVELOPMENT
DIRECTOR

As a Development Director, you will be comfortable with communicating and leading both internal and external partners, whilst retaining a strong passion for playing and creating games. You will work with cross-functional teams and take responsibility for setting the high-level schedule and quality expectations to deliver on the overall game.

Third Kind Games is an independent game studio based in Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, the heart of the UK games industry. Third Kind was founded in 2016, by a group of industry veterans from many high profile companies such as Activision, Codemasters, Sony, Crytek and we have been growing ever since. 

We’re now one of the largest independently owned game dev studios, we have also launched our new studio in Poland, built on the same shared TKG spirit and values.

We work with some of the biggest AAA names in the industry such as Blizzard, Amazon, Microsoft and Mythical Games. Alongside our client projects, we’re also working on our own IP, so it’s a super exciting time at Third Kind Games!

ROLE OVERVIEW
  • You will understand our consumer needs and ensure the Development vision is understood by the teams and our partners so the game is delivered to schedule and exceeds expectations. 

  • You can communicate and evangelise your vision to both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

  • You will be responsible for managing and guiding the overall Development direction and the schedules for the game by collaborating with and inspiring your teams to meet key milestones.

  • You can support the prioritisation of the various daily workstreams to ensure a balanced approach to workload and production on behalf of your management team.

  • You will lead by example and use your knowledge to support the continued improvement of the development of the process management within the production environment.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • You can lead and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, motivating our cross-functional Directors and managers to develop unique games with an engaging player experience.

  • You can understand the technical and production elements to ensure a practical concept is delivered whilst managing the risk and mitigation for your team and the studio.

  • You will ensure your teams planning sessions, scrums, and retrospectives drive the development of the projects whilst identifying process improvement opportunities.

  • You understand performance management and can lead, develop and motivate the team through one to one’s and structured appraisals to deliver results and mentor your successors.

  • You can manage multiple projects and also the resource planning required to ensure the games technical and specialist skill-set requirements are met.

  • Naturally inquisitive, you keep up to date with the games market, emerging technologies and industry trends and cascade according to support the creativity of the game.

  • You will be able to collaborate and communicate across the studio with internal teams and customers to validate the game and realise a shared vision.

  • You will be able to talk and present enthusiastically about game ideas, championing their potential.

  • You will be adaptable and a great problem solver.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years industry experience in a Leadership position managing production planning and execution.

  • A realistic, pragmatic and commercially aware approach to games development and production.

  • Strong, passionate communicator with good negotiation experience and skills in conflict resolution.

  • Proven ability to manage, deliver and take ownership of innovative gameplay production, ideas and features that keep players wanting more.

  • You will play an active role in the mentoring and development of your management team.

  • Experience working on all stages of a AAA project, from concept to launch.

DESIRED
  • Experience with Unity, or similar game engines.
